We Get to Design Our Lives

Yup. Each one of us gets to design our own wild and precious life. It takes some of us longer than others to realize that that is not only permissible, it's absolutely necessary for our mental and emotional wholeness.

It's not only important for adults. It's super-important for our children as well. They need to have the autonomy to understand and recognize their own gender and gender expression. They need to have the language to make sense of it.

If you are the parent of a gender-nonconforming child (which is a term I've really grown to dislike because it's limiting and connotes something negative) you need to pay attention to what they are telling you about who they are. Even if your first thought is "They are too young to be thinking about that" or "How can they know that at such an early age?"

Everyone's gender journey is unique. Sometimes it's very clear, and sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's linear and other times it's a windy road with switchbacks. There is no predetermined timeline that is "right" and no single destination. If you need help navigating the emotions you are experiencing as you accompany your child on their gender journey, go to www.bloombigcoaching.com and schedule a free consult or send me a message.
